Usage Note
Gré rarely stands alone and mainly appears in fixed phrases. De bon gré means 'willingly'; de mauvais gré means 'reluctantly'; au gré de means 'according to' or 'at the mercy of'. Savoir gré à quelqu'un means 'to be grateful to someone'.
