Usage Note
Gisement refers to a natural deposit of minerals, oil, or gas in the ground: un gisement de pétrole ('an oil field'), un gisement d'or ('a gold deposit'). It is almost exclusively a geological and industrial term. Do not confuse with dépôt ('deposit' in a general or financial sense).
