Usage Note
Girl is a French loanword from English used specifically for a female cabaret or chorus dancer, as in the Folies Bergère tradition — it does not mean 'girl' in the general sense (which is fille or jeune fille). The plural is les girls. Its use is largely confined to the entertainment industry.
