Usage Note

Gentiment is derived from gentil ('kind, nice') and softens requests or commands: demande-lui gentiment means 'ask him nicely'. It can also carry mild sarcasm when used with irony. The adverb follows the regular French pattern of adjective (feminine) + -ment.
