smoker

noun fu-MUR Rare

Origin: French fumer 'to smoke' + agentive -eur suffix

Fumeur denotes a person who smokes. The feminine form is fumeuse. In public spaces, signs distinguish zone fumeur (smoking area) from zone non-fumeur (no-smoking area). The compound non-fumeur is also used as an adjective: un compartiment non-fumeur. Since France's 2007–2008 smoking ban, public indoor spaces are non-fumeurs by law.
