Coiffer primarily means to style or arrange hair (se faire coiffer = to have one's hair done). The reflexive se coiffer means to do one's own hair. The derived noun un coiffeur / une coiffeuse means hairdresser, and une coiffure is a hairstyle. In sport, coiffer can mean to beat someone at the last moment (coiffer au poteau = to beat at the post).
