Usage Note
Fortune means both 'fortune' (great wealth) and 'fate/luck', though the latter sense is more literary today. Faire fortune means 'to make one's fortune'. The adjective fortuné means 'wealthy' rather than 'lucky' — don't confuse with chanceux for 'lucky'.
