Ferrer covers several distinct practical actions: fitting a horse with iron shoes (ferrer un cheval), fitting a sole with a metal tip, or setting the hook when fishing (ferrer le poisson). The person who shoes horses is a maréchal-ferrant. Do not confuse with fermer (to close).
