fatalité

fate, fatality

noun fah-tah-lee-TEH Rare

Usage Note

Fatalité expresses the idea that certain events are predetermined or inevitable — a stronger, more fatalistic tone than destin (destiny). S'incliner devant la fatalité (to bow to fate) conveys resignation. It also means the statistical inevitability of accidents in a given context, as in news reporting on road fatalités.

Examples

"Il acceptait la fatalité de sa situation."

Natural Translation

He accepted the inevitability of his situation.
