Usage Note

Fado is the Portuguese genre of melancholic song, adopted into French as a loanword. It is associated with saudade (longing). In France, the singer Amália Rodrigues popularised fado in the mid-20th century and the genre is now part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage.
