dôme
dome
noun DOHM Rare
Origin: From Italian 'duomo' (cathedral), from Latin 'domus' (house).
Usage Note
Dôme refers both to an architectural dome and, in geography, to a dome-shaped mountain or hill — le Dôme du Goûter near Mont Blanc, for example. The circumflex accent on the o lengthens the vowel. In French cooking, un dôme also describes a rounded dessert moulded into a dome shape.
Examples
"Le dôme de l'église brille sous le soleil."
Natural Translation
The dome of the church gleams in the sun.
