Usage Note
Doute is used in key fixed phrases: sans doute means 'probably' (not 'without doubt' — that is sans aucun doute), and mettre en doute means to call into question. The verb douter means to doubt, while se douter de means to suspect — a false-friend trap for English speakers.
Examples
"J'ai des doutes sur sa sincérité."
Natural Translation
I have doubts about his sincerity.
