Usage Note

Dissiper can describe fog or clouds clearing (le brouillard se dissipe) as well as dispelling doubts or fears (dissiper les craintes). In an older register it also meant 'to squander' (wealth). The reflexive se dissiper is the most common form in weather and emotional contexts.
