Usage Note
Daube is a classic Provençal braised beef dish slow-cooked with wine, vegetables, and herbs in a sealed pot called a daubière. Marcel Pagnol's and Virginia Woolf's writing both celebrate the dish. Une daube informally can also mean 'a piece of junk' or 'rubbish' in colloquial French, so context is important.
Examples
"Ma grand-mère prépare une daube le dimanche."
Natural Translation
My grandmother makes a beef stew on Sundays.
