Couplet in French specifically means a sung or spoken stanza in a song, as opposed to le refrain ('chorus'). In everyday speech couplet can humorously refer to someone's predictable speech: il nous a sorti son couplet habituel ('he gave us his usual spiel'). The plural couplets is regular.
