Usage Note

Conspirer can be used transitively with contre (to conspire against someone) or intransitively when things conspire together: tout conspirait à le ruiner (everything conspired to ruin him). The related noun conspirateur/conspiratrice means conspirator, and une conspiration is a conspiracy or plot.
