consistant

substantial

adjective kon-sis-TAHN Rare

Also means

consistent

Usage Note

Consistant describes something solid or filling (a repas consistant is a hearty meal) or, in more abstract contexts, something coherent and well-grounded (an argument consistant). It is a false friend for English speakers: it does NOT mean 'consistent' in the sense of being regular or uniform — that would be régulier or cohérent.

Examples

"Il nous a servi un repas consistant."

Natural Translation

He served us a substantial meal.
