Usage Note

Coincer means to wedge or jam something so it can't move, and is commonly used in the passive/reflexive: être coincé ('to be stuck' — in traffic, in a job). Colloquially it also means to corner someone (coincer quelqu'un — to catch them out). The noun un coin means a corner or wedge.
