coïncider
to coincide, to match
verb koh-een-see-DEH Rare
Origin: From Latin 'coincidere' (to fall together).
Usage Note
Coïncider requires the diaeresis on the i to show that co- and in- are pronounced separately. It is used both for temporal coincidence (les deux événements coïncident) and spatial or logical correspondence (les résultats coïncident avec nos prévisions). The noun coïncidence is spelled the same way with the diaeresis.
