Usage Note
Automne is masculine, which surprises many learners — all four French seasons are masculine. The 'm' is silent, but the final 'n' is pronounced, so it rhymes with tonne. En automne ('in autumn') uses en without an article, as with all seasons. Automnal is the rare adjective form ('autumnal').
Examples
"Les feuilles tombent en automne."
Natural Translation
Leaves fall in autumn.
