Usage Note
Éterniser is most commonly used reflexively as s'éterniser, meaning to go on and on without ending — for example la réunion s'éternise — 'the meeting drags on forever'. The non-reflexive form meaning 'to immortalise' is more literary.
Examples
"La réunion s'éternise encore."
Natural Translation
The meeting is dragging on again.
Literal Translation
The meeting itself-drags-on again.
