Usage Note
Éprouver is the standard verb for experiencing emotions or sensations: éprouver de la joie means to feel joy. It also carries the older sense of testing or trying something out, as in éprouver sa résistance. The adjective éprouvant (draining, taxing) and éprouvé (proven, reliable) are both useful derivatives.
