trouver

to find

verb troo-VEH Common

Also means

to think

Usage Note

Trouver means to find an object, but also to hold an opinion — je trouve ça beau is 'I think that's beautiful'. Reflexive se trouver locates things, as in où se trouve la gare ?, or means to happen to be, while aller chercher covers the going-to-fetch sense that 'find' can't.

Examples

"Je trouve ça génial."

Natural Translation

I think that's great.

Literal Translation

I find that great
