traumatiser

to traumatize

verb troh-mah-tee-ZEH Rare

Origin: Greek 'trauma' (wound)

Usage Note

Traumatiser is used both in clinical psychology (une expérience traumatisante = 'a traumatic experience') and in colloquial French where it is often humorously exaggerated — tu m'as traumatisé avec ce film! means 'that film scarred me!'. The adjective traumatisant and noun traumatisme share the same root.

Examples
