Taxer covers both the formal sense of imposing a tax or duty and the informal sense of accusing someone of something (taxer quelqu'un de paresse = 'to accuse someone of laziness'). In very informal French it can also mean 'to cadge or borrow' something from someone. It is a regular -er verb.
