simuler

to simulate, to fake

verb see-mü-LEH Rare

Origin: Latin simulare

Usage Note

simuler means both 'to simulate' (run a technical or computer simulation — simuler un accident) and 'to feign' (simuler une maladie — 'to fake an illness'). The noun simulation and the adjective simulé follow naturally. Un simulateur can refer to a flight simulator or, pejoratively, a malingerer.

Examples

"Il a simulé une maladie pour ne pas travailler."

Natural Translation

He faked an illness to avoid working.

Literal Translation

He simulated an illness so as not to work.
