Usage Note
Sieur is a formal or archaic title equivalent to 'mister', now mainly found in legal documents, historical texts, or used ironically. It is the contracted older form of seigneur. In modern speech it can carry a sardonic tone: le sieur Dupont (that fellow Dupont).
