Usage Note
Semence is the general agricultural term for seeds or grain used for sowing — semences sélectionnées are certified seeds. It is also the anatomical term for semen. The verb semer (to sow) is closely related. Do not confuse with graine (seed of a specific plant, for eating or planting by a non-specialist).
