Usage Note

Seigneur referred historically to a feudal lord who held authority over land and serfs. In a religious context, le Seigneur (capitalised) means 'the Lord' (God). The exclamation Seigneur ! expresses surprise or distress, roughly equivalent to English 'Good Lord!'
