Usage Note
Scrupule is almost always used in the plural scrupules in idiomatic expressions: avoir des scrupules (to have scruples), sans scrupules (unscrupulous). The adjective derived from it is scrupuleux (scrupulous), meaning painstakingly careful as well as morally conscientious.
