Usage Note

Satin is a smooth, lustrous fabric characterised by its shiny face and dull back, traditionally made of silk. The adjective satiné ('satin-like', 'with a satin finish') is widely used in cosmetics and paint descriptions. Une peau satinée ('satin-smooth skin') is a common beauty-register phrase.
