rustique
rustic, rural
adjective rüs-TEEK Rare
Origin: Latin rusticus ('of the country'), from rus ('countryside')
Also means
hardy (of plants)
Usage Note
Rustique can describe a countryside style (un meuble rustique — rustic furniture), a rural lifestyle, or in gardening a plant that is rustique ('hardy, frost-resistant'). The gardening sense is a false friend for English speakers: 'rustic' in English does not mean hardy. The noun la rusticité covers both the style and the hardiness.
Examples
"Ils ont décoré la maison dans un style rustique."
Natural Translation
They decorated the house in a rustic style.
