romantique

romantic

adjective ro-mahn-TEEK Less Common

Origin: French roman (novel, romance)

Usage Note

Romantique describes both the Romantic artistic movement (la période romantique — the Romantic era) and the everyday sense of being romantic or sentimental. Unlike English, it can be used as a noun — un romantique is a romantic person or a Romantic writer. Do not confuse with romanesque, which leans toward the novelistic or adventurous.

Examples

Natural Translation
