revenir

to come back

verb ruh-vuh-NEER Common

Usage Note

Revenir is built from venir with the prefix re- (again), and like its parent it takes être in the past: je suis revenu. It carries a sense of return to a starting point, distinct from retourner (to go back somewhere else), and ça revient cher means something ends up costing a lot.

Examples

"Je reviens tout de suite."

Natural Translation

I'll be right back.

Literal Translation

I return right-away
