Ressentiment is a deeply felt, lasting grievance or bitterness, stronger than simple mécontentement ('discontent'). The philosopher Nietzsche used the French word ressentiment as a philosophical term in German, making it internationally known. It derives from ressentir ('to feel deeply'), sharing its root with sentiment.
