Raide describes physical stiffness (a stiff muscle, a steep slope) and can colloquially mean 'broke' (être raide = to be flat broke) or even 'dead' (raide mort = stone dead). The adverb raidement is less common than the adjective itself used adverbially in expressions like tomber raide.
