Usage Note

Prophète refers to a religious prophet or, figuratively, someone who predicts the future. The French proverb nul n'est prophète en son pays ('no one is a prophet in their own land') is widely known. The feminine prophétesse exists but is far less common; the related verb is prophétiser (to prophesy).
