Usage Note

Profondément is the adverb from profond ('deep') and is used for emotional depth (profondément touché = deeply moved), sleep (dormir profondément = to sleep soundly), and intellectual conviction. Unlike très, it adds a qualitative sense of depth rather than mere degree.
