Usage Note
Porc covers both the live animal and the meat — unlike English, which distinguishes 'pig' from 'pork'. The final 'c' is silent. Le cochon is the more colloquial word for the animal, while porc is preferred on menus. Côtes de porc (pork chops) and rôti de porc are staple French dishes.
Examples
"Elle commande du rôti de porc."
Natural Translation
She orders roast pork.
