Usage Note
Paddy refers to rice still in the husk, grown in flooded fields; the fields themselves are called rizières (f pl). The word is used in agricultural and culinary contexts and is the same in both French and English. In French it is invariable and always masculine. It should not be confused with the English slang use of 'paddy' as an ethnic slur.
