Mi is most often seen in compounds: à mi-chemin ('halfway'), à mi-voix ('in a low voice'), mi-temps ('half-time' or 'part-time'). As a standalone noun it can refer to the musical note E (mi in solfège). It is invariable and always used with a hyphen in compounds.
