Usage Note

Menacer takes a direct object for the person threatened and de plus an infinitive for the threatened action, e.g. menacer quelqu'un de partir. The noun menace (threat) shares the root. It can also be used impersonally to describe imminent bad weather: le ciel menace ('the sky looks threatening').
