Usage Note
Massacre denotes the killing of a large number of people or animals, often indiscriminately. The verb massacrer also carries the colloquial meaning of butchering or ruining something (tu as massacré cette chanson = 'you've butchered that song'). The final 'e' is silent but the 'r' is clearly pronounced.
