Marc primarily refers to the solid residue left after pressing grapes or olives, and also to the brandy distilled from grape pomace — marc de Bourgogne is a famous example. Un marc de café means 'coffee grounds'. The final c is silent. It is a distinctly French/agricultural term with no direct English single-word equivalent.
