Kibboutz is a direct borrowing from Hebrew kibbutz (gathering), referring to a collective agricultural community in Israel. The French plural is sometimes kibboutzim (following Hebrew) but kibboutz is also used unchanged. The word entered French through mid-20th century journalism covering Israeli statehood.
