Usage Note
Islamique is an adjective describing things relating to Islam — its institutions, law, or civilisation: art islamique (Islamic art), droit islamique (Islamic law). It is distinct from islamiste (Islamist), which carries a political connotation. French style guides recommend islamique for cultural and religious reference and islamiste only when referring to political movements that seek to impose Islamic law.
