Usage Note
Ironique is invariable for gender (un ton ironique / une remarque ironique). It describes something said with irony — meaning the opposite of what is literally stated — and is generally milder than sarcastique, which carries a sharper or unkind edge. The adverb ironiquement and the noun l'ironie complete the word family most learners will need.
Examples
"Il a répondu d'un ton ironique."
Natural Translation
He replied in an ironic tone.
