Intrus derives from the Latin intrusus and is related to the verb s'introduire (to slip in, to enter uninvited); the feminine counterpart is intruse. Note the silent final -s — the word is pronounced 'an-TROO'. It is used for unwelcome gate-crashers, computer intruders, or species that don't belong in an ecosystem.
