Usage Note

Informer takes a direct object for the person notified (informer quelqu'un de quelque chose, 'to inform someone of something'). The reflexive s'informer means 'to find out' or 'to keep oneself informed'. The related noun information and its plural informations ('the news') are both extremely common.
