historique
historical, historic
adjective ees-toh-REEK Less Common
Origin: Latin historicus
Usage Note
Historique functions as both 'historical' (relating to history) and 'historic' (momentous). Un bâtiment historique is a historic building, while un événement historique can mean a momentous event. Unlike English, French uses the same word for both senses; gender agreement adds -e only when modifying a grammatically feminine noun, as the word already ends in -e in both genders.
Examples
"Ce château est un monument historique."
Natural Translation
This castle is a historic monument.
